As you may be aware, we have a wonderful area of fynbos toward the top of the estate where many of our residents enjoy to walk regularly. The flora and bird life are a good reflection of what is available generally in fynbos areas, we also have some unique plants and many very small indigenous orchids, which are worth keeping an eye out for.
Since the new budget period the garden committee have embarked on a fire reduction plan in this area. As the area was ageing and the fynbos dying, the best alternative to fire (which is a risk to the surround houses) is to reduce the dead and dying material. This is obviously not ideal, but necessary. We hope to see many of the indigenous species return after the rather drastic cutting back. The same process was undertaken on the bracken trail a few years ago and the bounce back of multiple species has been very rewarding. Please enjoy this space and treasure the beauty that it affords us all.
